Almost every problem in a generated car image traces back to ignoring that: describe a blue sedan in a field and you get a blue shape with no reflections, which the eye reads as a toy. What a car looks like is mostly a description of what is around it, so write the surroundings as carefully as you write the car.
Gloss paint returns the sky as a long bright band along the roof and shoulder line, and returns the ground as a darker band below the beltline. That gradient is the whole illusion. Ask for an overcast sky and you get a soft even sheen with gentle highlights. Ask for a clear sky at low sun and you get a hard streak down the flank and a warm rim on the wheel arches. A dark car in a bright open lot looks pale and washed out because it is reflecting everything; a dark car under a bridge or between buildings looks deep and saturated because it is reflecting shadow.
The classic three-quarter front at roughly waist height flatters nearly every car — you see the face and the flank together, and the proportions read correctly. Drop the camera to bumper height and the car gains mass and menace. Raise it and it starts looking like a press render. Say the height explicitly, because the default is usually a standing eye level that makes the roof look tall.
